ESCPH officially a UNICEF Rights School

At the beginning of May 2021, the European School Copenhagen was granted Rights School accreditation by UNICEF Denmark. Rights Schools, known as Rettighedsskoler in Denmark, are a UNICEF initiative to get schools to teach the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and use it as a foundation for everything that is done in school. The goal of Rights Schools is to develop happy, empowered children, who thrive both in and out of school.

The occassion was celebrated at an official ceremony, where the school’s Rights Council was presented with a special plaque. All the Primary students also shared in the celebrations via an online assembly.

Since the school started the journey to become a UNICEF Rights School in 2019, the classes have been working on the different articles in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and each class has developed their own rights charter. The school has also established a Rights Council consisting of students and teacher reps. They meet regularly to discuss matters that are important to the students and have also conducted a well-being survey.

The school is delighted to have its efforts recognised and will continue to focus on rights-based education for all.
